UK University Student Hubs Explained: Cumbria, UCFB, LSE, UCLan, ATU & Northeastern
Why So Many Universities Have a "Student Hub"
Search "student hub" in the UK and you'll get a pile of results that look similar but lead to completely different places. The University of Cumbria has one. So does UCFB, LSE, UCLan, and ATU over in Ireland. Northeastern's Student Hub pops up too. None of them are the same system — the name is just what universities call their student portal.
This guide sorts them out: what each university's student hub is for, who uses it, and how login works. One rule covers all of them — your login only works at your own university's portal. For the general story of why the name is shared, see our main Student Hub guide.
University of Cumbria Student Hub
Cumbria's Student Hub is the front door to everything a student needs: timetables, the ICON student-records system, library services, IT help, and careers. It lives on the web at hub.cumbria.ac.uk, and there's a "Cumbria App" in the app stores that wraps the same content for phones. The university's own help page — my.cumbria.ac.uk's Student Hub guide — walks through accessing it from the "Student" link on the university homepage or the mobile app.
Who uses it: all University of Cumbria students, including apprentices (who get their own dashboard view). Login: your university email address (in the [email protected] format) plus your university password. The hub is customizable — you can resize, move, hide, and recolour the tiles to build your own dashboard.
UCFB Student Hub (Online Hub)
UCFB — the football business university with campuses at Wembley and Manchester — calls its student system the Online Hub. New students meet it during enrollment: after you complete enrolment and your system access is set up, you log in to the Online Hub to confirm your details and reach your course pages. UCFB's official Welcome Week page describes the first-login process step by step.
Who uses it: enrolled UCFB students. Login: through my.ucfb.com, using the login details emailed to you after enrolment — allow up to 48 hours for course pages to appear. Note that UCFB degrees run in partnership with the University of East London, so you'll also see UEL systems (like UEL Direct) during enrolment; they're separate from the Online Hub. Locked out? UCFB's IT Service Desk handles access issues — and our login troubleshooting guide covers the usual fixes first.
LSE Student Hub
The LSE Student Hub is a mobile app (iOS and Android, plus a web version) for London School of Economics students: personal timetables, office-hour bookings with academic mentors, LSE LIFE one-to-one sessions, campus maps, and a newsfeed from the School and your department. LSE's official page for current students — info.lse.ac.uk's Student Hub page — has the download links.
Who uses it: full-time and part-time LSE undergraduates and postgraduates (not Summer School or executive education students). Login: your LSE username and password once your IT account is set up; offer holders without an IT account yet can use an LSE public account. We cover it in more depth in LSE Student Hub App Explained.
UCLan Student Hub
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) uses "Student Hub" branding mainly around student support and settling in — it's where the university points new students for welcome information and help finding services. Day-to-day study, though, runs through UCLan's other systems: course materials and assignments live in Blackboard, reached via the university's student portal, and email runs on Office 365.
Who uses it: UCLan students, especially new starters looking for support contacts. Login: start from uclan.ac.uk's student pages and follow the official links — don't trust third-party "uclan login" sites. (Heads-up: the university has begun rebranding to the University of Lancashire, so you may see both names; it's the same institution.) If your course content won't load, the problem is usually the Blackboard side rather than the hub — check our login fixes before assuming your account is broken.
ATU Student Hub (Ireland)
Atlantic Technological University in Ireland runs an ATU Student Hub as the go-to place for timetables, exam results, and student information, alongside myATU for onboarding and Moodle for course content. ATU's official pre-arrival page lists the Student Hub among the essential systems new students should know.
Who uses it: ATU students across its campuses (Galway–Mayo, Sligo, Donegal, and others). Login: with your ATU student account — email in the [email protected] format — plus multi-factor authentication, which ATU requires you to set up at registration. New students get the setup steps by email after accepting their place; the university's induction pages walk through password setup, online registration, and Moodle access in order.
Northeastern Student Hub (US)
Northeastern University's Student Hub (me.northeastern.edu) is the Boston university's launchpad for student life: class schedules, advisor contacts, clubs and organizations, campus news, and links out to bills, registration, and Canvas. Northeastern's own Student Hub resource page describes it as every student's home base.
Who uses it: all Northeastern students, personalized by campus and community. Login: your Northeastern email and password, then Duo two-factor authentication. It's US-based rather than UK, but it shows up in the same searches — another reminder to check the domain before logging in anywhere.
Quick Comparison
- Cumbria: hub.cumbria.ac.uk + Cumbria App — timetables, ICON records, library, IT. Login with uni email.
- UCFB: Online Hub at my.ucfb.com — enrolment, course pages. Login details emailed after enrolment.
- LSE: Student Hub app — timetables, bookings, campus map, news. Login with LSE username/password.
- UCLan: student support hub on uclan.ac.uk; courses in Blackboard. Start from official student pages.
- ATU: Student Hub on atu.ie — timetables, results, student info. Login with ATU account + MFA.
- Northeastern: me.northeastern.edu — schedules, advisors, clubs. Login with Northeastern email + Duo.
The Golden Rule
Every one of these portals only accepts its own university's credentials. A Cumbria login won't work at UCFB, an LSE password won't open the ATU hub, and none of them will accept a generic signup. When a login fails, the fix is almost always the same short list — right portal, current password, correct ID format, fresh browser — which is why we wrote the step-by-step login fixes guide. And if you're still stuck, your university's IT helpdesk can see your account status in seconds. Nobody else can.
