LSE Student Hub App Explained

What the LSE Student Hub Actually Is

The LSE Student Hub is the London School of Economics' own student app — built for LSE students and nobody else. It pulls together your class timetable, room and service bookings, campus maps, and LSE news into one place, so you're not digging through five different websites between lectures.

It's one of several unrelated platforms that share the "Student Hub" name. If you landed here looking for a different university's portal, our main guide explains the others, and our UK university student hubs roundup covers Cumbria, UCFB, UCLan, and ATU too.

What You Can Do in the App

LSE describes the hub as the way to organise your time and keep up with the School. In practice, the features students use most are:

  • Your personal timetable — class and lecture times drawn from LSE's systems, not a generic schedule.
  • Bookings — office hours with your academic mentor and one-to-one sessions with LSE LIFE, the School's academic support service.
  • Campus map — useful in the first weeks when every LSE building looks the same.
  • Newsfeed — posts from LSE, your department, and student services.
  • Programme directory — see who's on your programme.
  • Support signposting — links to financial help, health and wellbeing services, and more.

How to Get It

The app is free on the iOS App Store and Google Play — LSE's official page for current students (info.lse.ac.uk) has the download links and a web-app version if you'd rather not install anything. Got an offer to study at LSE? You can download it and start exploring the community before term begins.

How Login Works

Once you've enrolled and set up your LSE IT account, you sign in with your LSE username and password — the same credentials you use for everything else at the School. If you don't have your IT account yet (offer holders, for example), you can sign in with an LSE public account instead.

One thing to note: the hub isn't for everyone at LSE. It's open to full-time and part-time undergraduates and postgraduates, but not to Summer School students, executive education students, or non-degree language students. If you're in one of those groups and can't get in, that's why — it's not a bug. Locked out for another reason? Our login troubleshooting guide walks through the usual fixes.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of It

Book mentor office hours early in term — slots go fast once essay deadlines approach. Turn on notifications for your department's posts so building closures and timetable changes reach you without checking email. And if the timetable looks wrong, check LSE for You (the School's student records system) first; the hub displays what the underlying systems say, so a wrong timetable usually means the underlying record needs fixing, not the app.

Student Hub vs LSE for You vs Moodle

New LSE students often wonder why the School needs three systems. Here's the split: LSE for You is the administrative record — enrollment, course registration, exam entries, transcripts. Moodle is the virtual learning environment — lecture slides, readings, assignment submissions, one course at a time. The Student Hub sits on top as the daily companion — your timetable for today, the bookings you need this week, the news that affects you.

You don't choose between them; you use all three for different jobs. The hub is the one you'll open most often day to day, but when something official needs doing — registering for courses, checking your transcript — that's LSE for You.

Common Problems and Quick Fixes

Can't log in after enrolling? Your IT account and your hub access aren't always instant — give it up to a day after enrollment, then try again. Timetable empty or wrong? Check that your course registrations are confirmed in LSE for You; the hub only shows what's registered. App crashing or not loading? Update to the latest version, or use the web app as a fallback — it has the same features. Not receiving notifications? Check your phone's notification permissions for the app, not just the in-app settings.

For anything account-related — password resets, locked accounts, missing IT access — LSE's Data and Technology service is the place to go. General login debugging steps that apply to any student portal are in our login problems guide.

The Bottom Line

For LSE students, the Student Hub is genuinely useful — it's the one place your timetable, bookings, and School news live together. Just remember it's LSE-only: no LSE account, no access. And if you ever need to double-check something official, LSE's own current-students pages are the source of truth — we're an independent guide, not part of the School.
